The stage was set for a photo finish. Second vs Third in the quest for honors. Former X-Cup Finalists, Forty4 FC vs the newcomers that have created shockwaves in the league...Shamrock FC. With only a point separating both sides, few could have predicted the outcome of this tie.
Let’s talk about the positives first, 6 goals. Yes that’s right! The tie ended in a dramatic 3-3 draw in what can only be described as a feisty affair. Christopher Choo, Brandon Koh and Cheung Ka Chai aka KC were on target for the home side. Now the negatives…the home side ended the game with two yellow cards while Forty4 FC ended the tie with two red cards and three yellow cards. Not the way we like things in the X-League. The relevant parties were issued with bans and severe warnings.
The result sees both teams maintain second and third place respectively. Forty4 FC end the season with 32 points and with the worst disciplinary record, 17 yellow cards and three red cards (two from this game). Meanwhile, Shamrock have a game in hand and will play Assumption FC on 12th March 2023. If they win that tie, they will leapfrog Forty4 FC in the league standings.

Valientes Bomberos 11 match win streak came to a screeching halt this week when they were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw by FootPanda FC. The last time these two teams met, the match ended 3-0 in favor of Valientes. While the first half of the game was a stalemate, the second half came to life when Hidayat Hamzah shockingly gave the home side the lead in the 55th min due to a defensive lapse. It looked as though Valientes were about to suffer their first defeat of the season until Harrys Zulfakar equalized for the away side in the 65th min. With all to play for, both sides tried their best to find the winner but it was not meant to be. Final Score: 1-1

Valientes Bomberos seem to like the number 7 a lot. For the third time this season, the league leaders have hit seven goals past their opponents and they did so in emphatic fashion. Man of the Match Haikal Azmi led the charge with three goals to his name and he was accompanied by Haziq Rahim, Mubashshir Aziz, Rubenas Abidin and Fatemy Fir. The away side managed to pull two goals back late in the second half through fine efforts by Wei Kong but it was a case of too little too late. With the result, Valientes Bomberos remain undefeated this season and currently enjoy a 15 point lead at the top of the league rankings.
This week saw two results end in a 2-2 draw with Maoists FC, FootPanda, FC SharX and Hermano Tigers all garnering a point each. In the case of Maoists FC, early goals from Asraf Zulkarnain and Muhammad Rafiq were not enough to secure all three points as FootPanda dug deep to secure a draw in the dying seconds of the game through Syawal Jasmi. This despite going a man down when Irfan Rosli was shown the red card in the 77th min of play. As for FC SharX v Hermao Tigers, all goals were scored in the first half of play with both sides desperately trying to find the winning goal in the second half but to no avail.

A controversial last min penalty saw Hermano Tigers secure their first point of the season at Riverside Secondary when they drew 3-3 with Valientes Bomberos. Benedict Sim gave the home side the lead in this tie in the 10th min before Rosli Ismail brought the score-line level for Hermano in the 27th min. Only time will tell… #Draw Streak? #Ted Lasso Season 2 Vibes!

The X-League sprung back into action this week after a two year hiatus due to the covid pandemic. What was originally contested by 11 teams in one division has now been reformatted into 18 teams split in two divisions after a "Live Draw" was held on 24th Aug 2022 to determine the allocation of all teams.
This season sees 8 brand new teams join the competition coupled with past X-League teams that have either rebranded themselves or joined us after taking a break from social footballing competitions. The format is simple, the top 3 teams in Division 2 will end the season with medals and be promoted to Division 1 while the bottom 3 teams in Division 1 will be be relegated to Division 2. MVP points are tabulated as follows- If a player is voted by his own team as MOM, the player gets 1 point & if a player is voted by the opposing team, the player then receives 3 points. Prizes for both MVP & Top Scorer will be announced in the coming weeks!
Now let's head straight into the action!
LAST SEASON
The X-League has always strived to push the boundaries of social and amateur football in Singapore beginning with postings and contests on social media platforms, pre & post-match interviews, match highlights, etc. Just before the pandemic hit, we became the first social football company to broadcast a league match LIVE on both Facebook & YouTube. That’s right, we had the full 1PlaySports Broadcast crew on hand for the fixture between Assumption FC and Southern Flowers FC. Close to 60,000 eager spectators from all over the world tuned in for what was a social footballing contest of the highest order. Officiated by a three-man team from the Football Association of Singapore, the game ended in a 2-2 draw in what was an evenly contested match from start to finish.
THIS SEASON
As fate would have it, both teams were drawn to face each other in the season opener for division 2 and what was the final scoreline? You guessed it...2-2! (No "Kelong" here we promise!). Nino Tan and Gabiar Nabi gave Assumption a comfortable 2-0 lead by the 29th min of play however their efforts were cancelled out by Man of the Match, Devin Yi's deadly double strikes in the 30th and 38th min. We can't wait to see what the 2nd fixture will bring!
Over at Ang Mo Kio Secondary, newcomers FootPanda FC, a team that started off as food delivery dispatchers under Foodpanda, delivered a crushing blow to their opponents, FC Sharx when they beat the home side 6-0 thanks to fine efforts from man of the Match Kenny Kamil (2), Hairi Shahri (2), Ibad Khalid and Danial Anaqi.
In our final game of the week, Shamrock FC and Valientes Bomberos played to a 2-2 draw in what can only be described as a fiesty affair with 5 yellow cards being dished out in the tie. Delphis Chua and Gerard Lim were on target for Shamrock giving them a 2-0 lead just after the break. Benedict Sim then pulled a goal back for Valientes in the 58th min before Dhikie Suyanto scored the equalizer 10mins from time,.
