About Us
Founded in 1997, a bunch of boys from Mayflower Secondary started kicking a plastic ball every day during recess time at the fitness corner. Throughout the years, these boys brought their game further by playing a real football at the basketball court after class.
Their game evolved out of school with a competitive edge when they formed a team, pitting against challenges from neighbourhood teams and creating their very own "kampong" records - including a 1-and-a-haLf year unbeaten track in the Ang Mo Kio vincinity.
In 2001, a stranger came into the lives of these boys born with a passion for the game, leading them with some direction and objective. Thus, Messina Greats was established.
Contributed by legendary ex-player cum smoker-addicted- to-mahjong, Kandi, "Messina" was derived from an American Football team which went undefeated for two years. "Greats" came about from the ever stubbornLy outspoken player Long, who believes that in it lies infinite power in the team's pursuit for glories and honours.
No doubt the team has seen players coming and leaving with time, but every Great is part of Greats team through life, as the team's emphasis on bonding through a common passion.
Messina Greats Football Club was renamed Greats Football Club on 4 February 2008.
