Sunday Premier League Season 5 Division 1

  • Week 21: Marceles Juniors FC wins the Div 1 crown for the fourth time!

Having beaten OneHeartBrothers 7-0 a week earlier, Marceles Juniors FC came into the away leg of this clash knowing that a win would earn them their fourth Div 1 title in five seasons. With Height Rovers sitting on 33 points, nothing but a win would seal the crown for Marceles.

Despite OneHeartBrothers scoring twice through Hamzy Mohd Selamat , Marceles found the back of the net seven times much to the delight of onlookers who witnessed what can only be described as social footballing poetry in motion. As the final whistle was blown, joy and sheer delight could be seen on the faces of the players who had a tough season to endure.

Congratulations Marceles Juniors FC on your Fourth Div 1 title!

  • Week 20: League title will go down to the wire!

The home and away legs for the clash between Marceles Juniors FC & OneHeartBrothers will prove to be the title decider for the Div One title. Marceles are trailing on the number of goals scored and needed desperately to find the back of the net and the away side did just that. A hat-trick by Man of the Match Haziq Malik coupled with goals from Vikkram Subramaniam, Iskandar Ali and Isa Othman saw Marceles come away 7-0 winners in a tie which they dominated from start to finish.

Next up, the Div 1 crown.

  • Week 19: Merceles scoring the right numbers!

Goals from Man of the Match and hat-trick hero Isa Othman coupled with fine efforts by Mohamed Taufeeq, Taufiq Rosli and Vikkram Subramaniam saw three time Division One Champions Marceles juniors FC beat Deaf Lions 6-1 at Marsiling Secondary. Having lost the first leg 7-0, Marceles stuck to the same game plan and came away with a similar result in the away leg. The score-line however could prove to be a deciding factor for the Div 1 title in the coming weeks. All we have to say is...Marceles is doing what needs to be done.

  • Week 18: Stallions end season in 4th place

With a nine point gap to fill and a hefty goal difference to close the gap on, Marceles Juniors FC took their first step towards claiming their fourth title when they hammered Div 2 Champions, Stallions FC 7-1 at Ang Mo Kio Secondary. Though both teams were evenly matches at kick-off, Marceles took their chances and made their opponents pay each time they made a mistake in front of goal.

The result sees Stallions Utd end their season in fourth place and on 18 points, a shadow of the team that once dominated the second division.

  • Week 17: Height Rovers earn walk-over win

Height Rovers took their points tally to 30 this week, nine points clear of closest rivals Marceles Juniors FC when they were awarded a walk-over 3-0 win due to a no show from their opponents. Whinning 11 have been facing a player shortage crisis these past few weeks and it came to a point where the team was forced to pull out of the X-League. We wish them all the best and hope they’ll be able to joining us next season.

  • Week 16: Bad weather mars potential title decider

The stage was set for an epic battle at Mayflower Secondary as defending X-Cup Champions Height Rovers took on the X-League’s most decorated team, three time Div 1 Champions Marceles Juniors FC. While the stage was set, the weather unfortunately was not. Featuring a depleted squad, Marceles found themselves 7-1 down at half time courtesy of clinical efforts by Muhammad Ramdan, Shaiful Abdul Rahman, Mohd Riswan and Mutalib Ahmad. While the second half of the match didn’t take place, both teams accepted the half-time score-line as the full time result as a re-match on another day would have been unfair to the home side.

Will the final result come back to haunt Marceles? Only time will tell.

  • Week 14: Battle for the Title Heats up!

With the match between Stallions Utd and Marceles postponed this week, Height Rovers were presented with the opportunity to regain top spot when they took on OneHeartBrothers at Marsiling Secondary. The away side started the game with eleven men but the same could not be said about their opponents. Victims of the CTE closure due to an oil spill, OneHeartBrothers began the game with only nine players and paid the price as early as the 8th min when Shaiful Rahman slotted home from close range.

OneHeartBrothers managed to score two goals during the course of the match courtesy of fine efforts by Dianto aka “Bob” and Muhammad Nur Hakim but it was not enough as the away side came away 6-2 winners. The result sees Height Rovers on 24 points in the league standings, three points ahead of Marceles Juniors FC who have two games in hand.

  • Week 13: Magnificent 7 for Marceles!

Following their hard fought win over OneHeartBrothers, one would have seen this as a mouth watering fixture with the Deaf Lions taking on three time Division 1 Champions, Marceles Juniors FC. What it turned out to be however, was a massacre. The Deaf Lions were missing a few key players that featured in their previous game and ended up paying the price for it.

Two goals by Fazlie Johar and Haziq Malik coupled with clinical efforts by Mohamed Taufeeq, Rezwan Zulkiflie and Arshad Mastan saw Marceles come away 7-0 winners in a tie which they dominated from start to finish.

  • Week 12: Speedy Wingers Rule the Day!

Fine efforts by Muhsin Johari, Sam Lin, Nahar Tan (2) and Man of the Match Louis Phua, saw Deaf Lions edge past OneHeartBrothers in a tale of two halves. The away side dominated the first, capitalizing on their speedy wingers whilst displaying some fine counter attacking play. With the half-time score reading 4-1, few would have bet on the home side staging a comeback in the second half.

OneHeartBrothers came out all guns blazing just after the break and immediately pulled a goal back within the first couple of mins. The Deaf Lions were then on the defensive for most of the second half and scored a goal of their own through Sam Lim, ten mins from time. The away side had this to say after the game, “We showed true courage and spirit in the first half and are very pleased with our performance. We hope to repeat our fine display in our next scheduled match”.

  • Week 11: All for One & One for All!

Following their 3-0 Walk-Over win against Stallions Utd due to a last min postponement, OneHeartBrothers proved why they’re a forced be reckoned with beating Whinning 11 5-1 at Ang Mo Kio Secondary. The score however, didn’t necessarily reflect the match itself with the home side missing countless chances in front of goal. Credit must go to the OneHeartBrothers goalkeeper, who kept his composure during the course of the match and confidently saved almost everything Whinning 11 threw at him.

Height Rovers made their intentions known this week when they beat Deaf Lions 8-1 in a one sided affair at Ang Mo Kio Secondary. The home side had this to say after the game. “We lost the match due to the unavailability if some of our regular players. The scorching sun didn’t help as well. Credit to Height Rovers, they played very well and deserved the win”.

Also at Ang Mo Kio Secondary, three time Sunday Premier League Division 1 Champions, Marceles Juniors FC continued their fine form despite a long break when they beat Whinning 11 4-1. The win sees them maintain third spot, three points behind the league leaders.

  • Week 7: Stallions gallop to victory!

Goals from Eugene Guan and Eugene Ng in the 38th and 75th min respectively was not enough to stop the Stallions from galloping to a win over the Deaf Lions this week. The three points mean that the Stallions move up to first in the league standings, tied on points with defending X-Cup Champions, Height Rovers.

The Deaf Lions had this to say after the game, “We started the game with only nine men and paid the price for it. We couldn’t find a way to penetrate their tight defence and when we did, we didn’t capitalize on our chances. When we finally got to full strength, the Stallions had got their momentum going and the match ended 5-2 in their favour. We fought hard and together as a team. That’s what matters at the end of the day”.

  • Week 1: Season kicks off with 11 goal thriller!

Whinning 11 got a taste of Division 1 football when they faced three time winners, Marceles Juniors FC at Fuchun Secondary this week. Having finished 2nd in Division 2 last year, much was expected of Whinning 11 as they lined up to face the home side. Despite finding the back of the net four times, Whinning 11 struggled to keep up with the slick ‘tiki-taka’ football Marceles had on display as they went on to score seven of their own.
