Team Report

Nice weather, good pitch and strong opponent. We were aiming for a classic draw against Stellar but had 2 last minute player cancellations by Bugra and Darius. This meant we have lost a key attacker and a key defender significantly lowering our chance of a positive result.

Nonetheless, we started better while Stellar was still trying to measure our strength. 8 minutes in and Ramon hits a crossbar from a position where he usually scores. Stellar took initiative later on with very good passing football, rarely you can see midfielders do such long precise passes to flanks. In addition most of Stellar players have good ball control and dribble very well. First goal didn't wait long, it came from our right flank with Stellar player managing to find a gap between Misha's legs to shot from the edge of the box, the ball on its way to goals has hit my elbow and nicked into bottom near corner fooling our goalkeeper despite getting a slight touch. (1-0) Minutes later a good cross by Stellar midfielder from the left flank landing in the goalkeeper box was poorly controlled by myself allowing Stellar attacker an easy steal and shot into near corner, our goalie was helpless again. (2-0) The score was a bit of shocker and we started to go more forward with myself doing a throw-in near Stellar's corner flag. The ball was headed out and quickly lobbed forward overflying our defenders positioned on the half-line and allowing Stellar's attacker one-on-one chance. Our goalie hesitated to come out and Stellar's attacker coolly finished with a classic curling shot into far corner. (3-0) It didn't take long until one of Stellar's midfielders tried a long shot about 5 meters out of penalty box directly into the centre of goals with our goalie, clearly upset to go 3 down in a matter of 10 minutes, mishandling the shot. He claimed the ball was swirling but this is quite normal with long shots. (4-0). The first half ended. There was no chance to comeback and we just wanted to control the damage by making some changes in defence. Second half was a boring affair with Stellar under no pressure calmly controlling the game relying on long shots with one from about 10 meters from penalty box flying over our goalkeeper into the centre of the goals. Poor positioning by the keeper. (5-0) We have had couple of opportunities from corners but Stellar's keeper handled it well.

In summary, Stellar is a very solid team and a clear contender for the Div 2 title. The only Stellar weakness is handling corners. MOM for USSR goes to Ramon and did his best and had the only clear chance for us. MOM for Stellar goes to their left flank attacker from the first half, they have no players listed so I will have to update it next time.
