Perso Leons ended their season this week with an impressive 2-0 win over Ike Ike FC, a result that sees them finish just a point behind USSR Utd in the league standings. Having only won four of their sixteen scheduled matches, team manager and leading league MVP Mohammad Nurzudy felt that it was time for a change. So moving forward, Perso Leons will now be known as En Fuego which translated to Spanish literally means “On Fire”.
We caught up with Zudy later in the week and here’s what he has to say about the new identity of his team, “We had new players come in mid-season which kind of changed our fortunes. I felt that it was time for a change thus the birth of En Fuego. We hope the new identity will give the current squad a sense of identity and hopefully spur them on the win the upcoming X-Cup”.

The home side bounced back from their defeat to Stellar Utd last week to beat the Russians 7-4 in a thrilling encounter. USSR had this to say after the game, “Despite the return of our star player Bugra to the line up, despite scoring four goals and despite having the strongest defence we’ve had all season, we succumbed to a bitter defeat. Most of the goals we conceded were due to poor defending and sloppy goalkeeping, a trend we’ve faced all season. We need to snap out of it and get back to form.”

Stellar Utd continued their fine form this week with an impressive 5-0 win over USSR Utd at Bedok South Secondary. USSR had this to say after the game, “ Nice weather, good pitch and strong opponent. We were aiming for a classic draw against Stellar but had to deal with 2 last minute player cancellations. This meant we have lost a key attacker and a key defender significantly lowering our chance of a positive result. In summary, Stellar is a very solid team and a clear contender for the Div 2 title. The only weakness they have is in handling corners. MOM for USSR goes to Ramon and did his best and had the only clear chance for us”.
Also at Bedok South Secondary, East Celtic beat Ike Ike FC 4-1 thanks to fine efforts by Poobalan, Abdul Muhaimin, Muhd Taufik and Mohammad Fauzi. The home side had this to say after the game, “ Our opponents started with only 7 men today so credit to them for pitting up a strong performance. Overall it was a good game and one we can build on moving forward”. League leaders SG Lions cruised their fourth straight win of the season beating NYCFC 4-1.

USSR Utd garnered their first win of the season this week thanks to a hard fought 2-1 win over Ike Ike FC at Regent Secondary. The home side had this to say after the game, “We started the game in high spirits keeping pressure on Ike Ike's defence. The pressure paid off when a throw-in was chested by Samir, a quick one-two with Pasha V followed, taking Samir practically one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Samir's shot was low and into the corner: 1-0. USSR had several more chances to score getting some nice saves from the opposing goalkeeper and hitting the post once but 1st half ended 1-0. Second half started in a more reserved manner. The game shifted to the middle of the pitch and Ike Ike started to create some opportunities. They have finally scored due to our goalkeeper mistake with a nice low shot from behind the box. 1-1 USSR made couple of changes after the goal and started to attack more, again we hit a post once. Luckily, towards the end of the game we earned a penalty, which was coolly converted by Samir. 2-1 the final score. MoM for us to Samir (2 goals) and to No.9 in Ike Ike's team for constant pressure on our defence”.
Over at Coral Secondary, East Celtic also secured their first win of the season beating Perso Leons 3-1 thanks to goals from Yasrif Azman, Amirul Zulqarnain and Mohammad Fauzi. Team Maestro went down 4-3 to SG Lions in a closely fought encounter at Regent Secondary. Lum I-Zack hit the target twice for the away side.
