Week 5 of Division 2 in the Sunday Premier League delivered thrilling action as league leaders Southern Flowers extended their unbeaten run, Fazlur Rahman stole the spotlight with a stunning five-goal display, and Druzhba FC pulled off an emphatic win against Fajar Youngsters.
In the top-billed clash, newly promoted sides Southern Flowers and FootPanda FC, both tied on points last season in Division 3, faced off. Southern Flowers dominated the first half, taking a commanding 2-0 lead courtesy of Shawn Lai and Aldren Koh. FootPanda attempted to claw their way back into the game in the second half but were unable to breach the Flowers' solid defense. The result keeps Southern Flowers firmly atop the standings, continuing their seamless transition to Division 2.
In our second clash of the week, Westo FC discovered the hard way that scoring three goals isn’t always enough in the X-League. They fell 7-3 to Box2Box FC in a goal-laden encounter. It was the Fazlur Rahman show, as the 33-year-old forward netted a jaw-dropping five goals, cementing his place at the top of the Division 2 scoring charts. Sufi Jantan and Subhan Baathusha also added their names to the scoresheet for Box2Box, while Westo’s spirited efforts ultimately fell short against a clinical Box2Box attack.
The final game of the week saw Druzhba FC deliver a stunning 4-1 victory over Fajar Youngsters at Clementi Town Secondary. Nilo Mata Cervera opened the scoring for Druzhba in the 15th minute, and although Muhammad Nasruddin equalized for Fajar five minutes later, Nilo struck again in the 35th minute to restore Druzhba’s lead. Samir Piriyev added a third before halftime, and Tobias Mass sealed the win with a composed finish in the 56th minute, leaving Fajar reeling from their first defeat of the season.

In the first game, Fajar Youngsters showcased composure and confidence in their Division 2 debut against Pacey Blinders. Afif Samari set the tone early, giving the home side the lead in the 5th minute with a precise finish. Pacey Blinders, determined to make their mark, equalized shortly after the interval through Si Han, affectionately known as Bobby. The match remained evenly poised until Afeez Zulhaikal, nicknamed Apeez, restored Fajar’s advantage with a clinical strike. Idris Rahim sealed the victory deep into injury time, completing a 3-1 win and securing three valuable points for the Youngsters.
At Clementi Town Secondary, Southern Flowers delivered a commanding performance against Westo FC. Despite a goalless first half, the hosts found their rhythm after the break. Man of the Match Devin Yi opened the scoring with a brilliant solo effort, and Wei Kong added a second shortly after to ensure a 2-0 triumph. Week 3 of the X-League’s Division 2 delivered a thrilling clash despite the disruption of bad weather, which postponed the match between Druzhba FC and Westo FC. All eyes turned to the encounter between Acolytes FC and Sparta Cowboys at Clementi Town Secondary, and the action did not disappoint.
After a tough defeat to Box2Box FC last week, Acolytes FC were determined to bounce back strong. Facing a Sparta Cowboys side reeling from a narrow 3-2 loss to Druzhba FC, the Acolytes struck first through Syafiq Juraimi, whose composed finish in the 20th minute gave the home side a slender 1-0 lead at halftime.
The second half saw Acolytes ramp up the intensity, with Man of the Match Edric Shem Pereira doubling their advantage in the 50th minute. However, the Cowboys were quick to respond, with Afiqul Zulhilmi pulling one back just two minutes later to reignite the contest. But Marcus Tan restored Acolytes’ two-goal cushion with a clinical effort in the 65th minute, securing all three points for the home side.

Week 1: Lights Shine Bright in Acolytes’ Debut as Sparta Cowboys Gallop to Victory
The curtain was raised on Season 16 of Division 2 of the Sunday Premier League with two highly anticipated matchups, showcasing both new talent and returning contenders.
The Acolytes FC, making their X-League debut, lived up to their motto, Jogar Para Excitar (“Play to Excite”), with a commanding 3-0 win over fellow newcomers Westo FC at Clementi Town Secondary. The Lights, as they’re fondly known, took the lead in the 16th minute through Edric Shem Pereira’s composed finish. Jerome Thomas doubled the advantage in the second half before Muhammad Fadhli sealed the victory in the 57th minute.
Reflecting on the win, the Acolytes said: “Boys were rusty in the first 20 minutes after not playing for close to a month. But we gradually grew into the game. 3 goals, 3 points, and a clean sheet to boot! Overall solid team performance. Unbeaten in 7, we go again next week!” A debut win and a clean sheet will certainly boost their confidence as they continue their journey in the league.
In the second game of the week, Sparta Cowboys kicked off their season with a strong 3-1 victory over newly promoted FootPanda FC, who finished third in Division 3 last season. Sparta’s opener came in the 12th minute via an unfortunate own goal, before Ikram Ilhami made it 2-0 with a precise strike.
FootPanda pulled one back through Yusoff Tahir in the 30th minute, but their hopes were short-lived as Afiqul Zulhilmi restored Sparta’s two-goal cushion just a minute later. Despite an improved defensive effort from FootPanda in the second half, the scoreline remained unchanged, giving Sparta the perfect start to their campaign.
