Week 29: Bassem Stars as Druzhba Seal Promotion in Style
The curtain came down on Division 2 of the Sunday Premier League this week with a final fixture that had everything on the line. Just two of the nine teams were in action, but the stakes could not have been higher. Druzhba FC needed a win against FootPanda FC to leapfrog Fajar Youngsters and clinch the final promotion spot. And they did not disappoint.
The star of the show was none other than Cheikh Boukal Ahmed, better known across the league as Bassem. The mercurial Druzhba midfielder put in a scintillating Man of the Match performance, finding the back of the net four times in a relentless display of attacking football.
The final scoreline of 8-2 in favour of Druzhba tells the story of a side who refused to let the occasion get the better of them. Nilo Mata Cervera netted a brace, while Emmanuel Lassalle, also known as Manu, and Ramon Dominguez chipped in with a goal apiece. Dominguez’s strike was especially poignant. A true Spanish X-League legend, Ramon will be returning to Spain in the coming weeks, and his farewell goal was a perfect ending to an 11-season X-League career in which he amassed 47 goals. Scoring in his final outing was simply the cherry on top for the Spaniard.
Even going down to ten men after Tin Vlasic was sent off for a second bookable offence did little to dent Druzhba’s momentum. The emphatic win secured third place in the standings and confirmed their promotion to Division 1 next season.

Week 28: Acolytes Awarded Walkover as Pacey and Fajar Share the Spoils
Only four of the nine Division 2 sides took to the pitch this week in what was meant to be the penultimate round of the Sunday Premier League campaign. While two fixtures were scheduled, only one match was actually contested on the field, as disciplinary issues marred the earlier kickoff.
In the 11am fixture, Acolytes FC were set to face FootPanda FC in what was supposed to be a curtain-closer for the runners-up. However, Acolytes turned up in full force, ready for battle, while FootPanda FC were nowhere to be seen. With just one player from FootPanda present and two X-League officials on site, the game was officially ruled a 3-0 walkover in favour of Acolytes FC, in accordance with the league’s Rules and Regulations. The no-show prompted disciplinary action, with FootPanda FC issued a severe warning and fine.
The action picked up in the 1pm clash, where Pacey Blinders FC locked horns with Fajar Youngsters at Clementi Town Secondary. Khamarul Majid got the Blinders off to a dream start, rifling home in the third minute. But Fajar responded through Si Han, also known as Bobby, who levelled things up in the 14th minute. The remainder of the contest was intense but goalless, with both teams engaging in a tactical midfield battle. Emotions flared, and the referee reached for his pocket on multiple occasions, dishing out five yellow cards in a feisty affair that ended 1-1.
The result sees Pacey Blinders FC close their season in sixth place, steering just clear of the relegation zone. Fajar Youngsters currently sit in third but face an anxious wait. With one match remaining in the season, Druzhba FC could leapfrog them into the final promotion spot if they manage a win against FootPanda next week.

While Box2Box had looked comfortable with a two-goal cushion courtesy of Muhammad Salmaan, who bagged a quick-fire brace early in the second half, Westo refused to back down. Mohamed Jafran pulled one back in the 73rd minute before Zhi Yong stunned the leaders with an equaliser deep into stoppage time. While Box2Box were unable to collect all three points, the result ultimately underlined their consistency and resilience as they clinched the Division 2 title with a five-point lead and just one game left for their nearest rivals.
The other key fixture saw second-placed Acolytes FC take on third-placed Fajar Youngsters in a game with high stakes. Acolytes struck first through Soumya Brata Das in the 16th minute, taking a slender 1-0 lead into the break. Khairulanwar Salih levelled things up with a fine strike in the 55th minute, but Dinie Tukiman quickly restored the lead for Acolytes three minutes later. It was a quiet week in Division 2 of the Sunday Premier League, with just two out of the nine teams in action. But the solitary fixture more than delivered, as Box2Box flexed their firepower in a convincing 6-2 win over Southern Flowers FC at Clementi Town Secondary.
Box2Box wasted no time asserting dominance. Fazlur Rahman opened the scoring within the first minute to set the tone for the afternoon. By the 17th minute, they had stormed to a 3-0 lead after further goals from Mathias Chin and Subhan Baathusha. Southern Flowers looked to have done enough when they raced to a 4-2 lead in the second half, with Wong Yang Zhi, also known as Park, and Shawn Lai among the scorers. But Pacey Blinders were relentless. Haziq Fikri, Khaw Relph and Brandon Thio all found the net in a spirited fightback that ensured a share of the spoils. Neither side deserved to lose, and the result still keeps Southern Flowers within touching distance of the top.
If that wasn't dramatic enough, the second fixture delivered the shock of the weekend as league leaders Acolytes FC were stunned 2-1 by FootPanda FC. Elsewhere, Westo FC picked up a much-needed 2-1 win over FootPandas FC in a tightly contested affair. The first half was a cagey affair, with both sides cancelling each other out in midfield. The second half, however, belonged to Afiq Ramlee. The Westo midfielder turned the game on its head with two quickfire goals in the 41st and 48th minutes to give his side a two-goal cushion. FootPandas rallied, and Hairi Shahri pulled one back with nine minutes to play in what was also a Man of the Match performance. But despite their late pressure, the equaliser never came.
The final game of the weekend saw Acolytes FC pull off a statement 3-2 win over league leaders Southern Flowers, also at Clementi Town Secondary. Goals from Wei Li, Tan Jovvan and Soumya Brata Das were enough to edge a nail-biter and move Acolytes into first place in the standings. Southern Flowers fought hard and made it a close contest, but it was Acolytes who held firm to take the spoils in a match that could have gone either way.

Westo pulled one back through Glenn Ong, but it proved only a consolation as Pacey Blinders saw out the match with little fuss.
Fajar Youngsters made it back-to-back wins with a gritty 1-0 triumph over Acolytes FC in a fiery contest. The match was packed with intensity, featuring four yellow cards and a red, with Fajar reduced to ten men late in the game. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Fajar had done the damage early. Muhammad Nasruddin fired home a sharp finish in the 11th minute that ultimately settled the affair. The Youngsters showed discipline and composure to protect their lead under pressure and continue their charge up the table.
The final match of the week saw Druzhba FC’s woes deepen as they fell 4-1 to a rampant Box2Box FC side. The hosts came flying out of the blocks and stormed into a 3-0 lead before half-time. Benjamin Chik opened the scoring, with Louis Joel adding a clinical brace. Kostya Gavrilov gave Druzhba a glimmer of hope just before the break, but any thoughts of a comeback were snuffed out when Mathias Chin struck in the 65th minute to seal a convincing win.

Volkov's tireless performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
However, it was Pacey Blinders who had the final word. With six minutes left on the clock, Si Han, also known as Bobby, popped up with a clinical strike to snatch all three points and send the home supporters into celebration. Druzhba were left ruing what could have been as their push for a top-two finish took a dent.

Despite going behind in the 42nd minute to a composed finish from Wei De, Fajar kept their cool. Their response came in rapid fashion after the break. The Acolytes FC, making their X-League debut, lived up to their motto, Jogar Para Excitar (“Play to Excite”), with a commanding 3-0 win over fellow newcomers Westo FC at Clementi Town Secondary. The Lights, as they’re fondly known, took the lead in the 16th minute through Edric Shem Pereira’s composed finish. Jerome Thomas doubled the advantage in the second half before Muhammad Fadhli sealed the victory in the 57th minute.
Reflecting on the win, the Acolytes said: “Boys were rusty in the first 20 minutes after not playing for close to a month. But we gradually grew into the game. 3 goals, 3 points, and a clean sheet to boot! Overall solid team performance. Unbeaten in 7, we go again next week!” A debut win and a clean sheet will certainly boost their confidence as they continue their journey in the league.
In the second game of the week, Sparta Cowboys kicked off their season with a strong 3-1 victory over newly promoted FootPanda FC, who finished third in Division 3 last season.
