• Week 2: Gombak Guerreiro pull off shock win to reach Q-Finals!

  

  Gombak Guerreiro reached the Q-Finals of the X-Cup this week beating Star FC 5-4 in a thrilling encounter. Star FC who sit in 5th place in Division One of the Sunday Premier League came into this tie with an impressive 10-1 win over Kopite Warriors and look set to bulldoze their way through later stages of the competition in true David v Goliath fashion, the Division 3 side dug deep and pulled off the upset of Round 2. Shoffian, Tam Manager of Gombak Guer. FC had this to say after the game, “I would like to congratulate my team for putting up such a spirited performance today. They gave 100% from the time the game kicked-off right up till the final whistle. The match was played with great intensity. Credit to Hilman gave it his all and was nominated as the Man of the Match”.
  
  The X-Cup provides the perfect opportunity for minnows to rise the occasion thus we say narrow wins for most of the remaining matches in Round 2. Besides Island 69’s dominant 3-0 win over Lion Heart FC and BPFC’s impressive 4-0 win over new-comers, Team Ho Wan, the rest of the matches were settled by a single goal. POS put an end to Freak Warrior’s campaign beating them 2-1 at Bedok View Secondary while Team Pirate suffered a scare against New Eastroids before eventually winning their tie 3-2.

• Week 1: Luck of the draw sees Newton Heath face Height Rovers in Round 2!

  

  The first round of the X-Cup kicked of last Sunday as 32 teams took to the field in search of the ultimate social footballing prize. The finalists of the X-Cup will face off at the Jalan Besar stadium in July with the winners walking away with not only $1001 cash prize but also the bragging rights as the Kings of Singapore Social Football.
  
  The luck of the draw saw the finalists from the inaugural X-Cup face each other in Round 2 as both Newton Heath and Height Rovers disposed of their opponents 3-1. Other notable results include Star FC’s 10-1 win over Kopite Warriors while BPFC beat Team Awesome 5-0 at East Spring Secondary. USSR Utd suffered a scare at Bedok View Secondary before beating Centurion Rovers 6-3.
  
  The top two sides from Division 5 of the Sunday Premier League, Team Pirate CF and Nan Hua FC squared off at West Spring Secondary. Team Pirate edged that tie 4-2 on penalties after the match ended in a pulsating 1-1 draw.
  
  Meanwhile at Bedok South Secondary, Freak Warrior, who are taking a break from league competition this season, dug deep to beat Deaf Utd 3-1 in a game where both sides hit the woodwork on more than six occasions. The warriors had this to say after the game-
