Team Report

The Lions came to this game with confidence back from a 6-0 trashing of Northern Warriors the week before, thanks to new signing Iwan Molina (Ivan) from Spain. The 20 year old Spaniard was definitely the key difference in the game against Freak Warriors as he earned his first hat-trick in only his second game. He also set a new club record for being the first player to score a hat-trick in a league game.

Ivan got on the scoresheet getting the Lions to an early lead. But poor defending gave the Freak Warriors the lead as 2 completely avoidable goals got past the defensive pair of Wan Senior and Mahhat.

Mahhat who played his last game for the Lions and wore the captain's armband as an honour for his contributions to the squad, came off at half time and Chilean Roberto Cambiazo was re-assigned as centre-back to add more speed to the defence.

The Santiago native did extremely well to help the defence as the Lions stopped leaking goals, inspiring Wan Senior to raise his game and save so many dangerous incursions in the box with his last minute tackles.

The second half also saw the debuts of 2 more foreign signings as Lee Jongjin (Busan, Korea) and Soksan (Phnom Penh, Cambodia) took to the field in inspired form. It was a completely different midfield, as former Prime League striker, Malik, controlled the midfield and made it extremely difficult for Freak Warriors to hold possession.

Soksan surprised with his trickery, surely uncommon for an ASEAN minnow footballing nation, created 4 good chances and contributed a through pass for Ivan to equalise from within the box.

Minutes later, another amazing through ball threaded to Ivan as he completed his hat trick with amazing mid-air control, scoring from the tightest of angles. Top class from the Valencian.

The Lions held on for the win, their second in the league, putting them ever closer to the top half of the table. Great job and all-round performance by the team.
