Sunday Premier League Season 9 Division 3

  • Week 20: Away comforts in Week 20 of Division 3!

Only 2 matches were played over the weekend of Week 20 in the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3.

D’Angelos Saints FC faced Atlas FC in the 1pm kick-off at Anderson Secondary School. Both teams started brightly in the first half but it was D’Angelos who scored first from a great passing display. The D’Angelos goalkeeper proved a stumbling block to the opponents by putting in a superb performance. Captain Azlan ‘Yayan’ Yazid equalised for Atlas on the stroke of half-time, toe poking the ball into the net from a perfect cross from Hanis. Late into the 2nd half, Captain Yayan provided a beautiful 30m pass which fell nicely onto Azlan’s path and he finished it off with aplomb. Atlas soon ‘parked the bus ‘to maintain their lead until the final whistle. Final score: D’Angelos Saints 1-2 Atlas FC.

The late game of the day featured NYCFC against USSR United at Peirce Secondary School. While NYCFC took home a point after a draw with Team Awesome the previous weekend, USSR was narrowly defeated by Lionheart FC in Week 19. Saifullah Ibrahim continued his fine form in front of goal by netting NYCFC’s solitary goal. It was mere consolation as USSR United hit their opponents for 7 and ran out deserving winners by the score line of 7-1.

  • Week 19: Away success again for Lionheart in Week 19!

Two matches kicked off in the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3 as the competition enters its 19th week.

Lionheart FC visited USSR United at Coral Secondary School, hoping to pick up another 3 points on the road after beating Team Awesome away in Week 18. USSR were not in league action the previous weekend and posed a different proposition for the away side in this match-up. The home side started the brighter of the two teams and were the ones to break the deadlock with a neat finish from their forward. Despite the setback, Lionheart soldiered on and mounted a comeback. Their efforts were rewarded as they drew level and eventually lead the contest. After a few other goal scoring chances, it finally ended in favor of the away team as they secured a slim 3-2 win over their tenacious hosts.

Over at Yio Chu Kang Secondary School, Team Awesome faced NYCFC in the late match. After suffering a 2-0 loss in Week 18, Team Awesome were hoping to bounce back with a poitive showing against a tough NYCFC side that has been in good form lately. Both teams took turns to control possession and created several chances in front of goal. It was the home side that got the breakthrough with a clever finish by their attacker and Team Awesome were deservingly in the lead. NYCFC were not to be denied however and after some intricate play, the ball landed at the feet of Saifullah Ibrahim who netted the equalizer for his team. Team Awesome went all out for the winner but were denied by some resolute defending by their opponents who had a player sent off in the later stages of the game. It ended Team Awesome 1-1 NYCFC.

  • Week 17: NYCFC profit from goalkeeping blunders to nick another victory

Week 17 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3 witnessed 2 matches being contested over the weekend.

USSR United faced East Celtic FC in the 1pm kick off at Bedok Green Secondary School. After suffering a narrow defeat in Week 16 against NYCFC, USSR were hopeful of getting a positive result against an opponent whose league results have been on the downslide recently. And USSR got off to the perfect start when they netted early in the game and started controlling the match proceedings. Despite their best efforts, East Celtic were not able to mount a comeback and USSR went on to score 3 more goals to seal the win with a 4-0 score line.

Atlas FC and NYCFC were involved in the late match at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School. Both clubs have been having indifferent results the past few weeks and were hoping to claim 3 precious points in this match. It started out brightly for the home side as captain Azlan ‘Yayan’ Yazid struck to give Atlas the early lead in the game. Atlas looked to be cruising to victory when they were undone by 2 costly howlers by their goalkeeper. NYCFC pounced on the goalie’s mistakes and scored twice to snatch a 2-1 win over their hapless opponents. “Despite scoring early thru our captain Yayan, we gifted our opponents the win with those 2 goalkeeping mistakes. We have to bounce back from this “said a disappointed Atlas team manager after the game.

  • Week 16: Lionheart stutter as NYCFC capitalise in Week 16 of Division 3!

The PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3 saw 2 matches being played at the same time in Week 16.

The first 3pm kick-off featured former champions D’Angelos Saints against Lionheart FC at Marsiling Secondary School. With both clubs not featuring in Week 15’s fixture list, they were eager to get going in their league encounter. As both teams pressed on for the victory, Fi Zac ended up as the star man for his team as he struck a stunning hat-trick to lead D’Angelos’s charge. Further goals from Mohan Raj (2) and Hougang Kutty Babu (HKB) ensured that D’Angelos claimed all 3 points with a 6-2 win.

Over at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School, USSR United met NYCFC and were hoping to get back to winning ways after some indifferent results. NYCFC were no pushovers themselves having convincingly beaten East Celtic in Week 15. The game was drab in the early stages as both teams were content on not conceding possession and making inroads into their opponent’s half. As the game went on, Haikal Talib and Saifullah Ibrahim managed to get on the scoresheet for NYCFC on the few forays into the USSR penalty box and they held on to the lead despite a goal from Roma that made the final moments of the game very edgy. Final score USSR United 1-2 NYCFC.

  • Week 15: NYCFC win on the road while Atlas and Fazy Wazy share the spoils!

The PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3 saw 2 matches being contested in Week 15.

Atlas FC faced Fazy Wazy in the early game at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School. With both teams not in league action in Week 14, they were eager to get the game off and running. It was the hosts that had the better chances in the early exchanges. Sazli Suhaimi gave the home side the lead with a neat header before Ruzaini added a second with a long shot from outside the box. Adi ‘Bulldozer’ Sufian soon got in the act with 2 quickfire goals. However Fazy Wazy were not to be outdone as they mounted a comeback. After clawing back with 3 hoals, Fazy Wazy were awarded a last minute penalty which they duly dispatched to earn themselves a well-deserved draw. “ Atlas was leading throughout the game and only that last minute penalty spoilt the day for us. Nonetheless, it was a superb game after a 6 weeks break” said the Atlas team manager after the game.

Over at Marsiling Secondary School, East Celtic welcomed NYCFC for the 3pm kick-off. Having had some indifferent results over the last couple of weeks, both teams were determined in getting a positive result from the game. The match started evenly with both sides having equal chances before the visitors assumed control of the game. Led by Man-of-the-Match Haikal Talib who netted a brilliant goal, NYCFC struck also with goals from Saifullah Ibrahim, Hairi Talib, Fadzil Fitri and Md Alfiyan. East Celtic had no answer to the attacking prowess of their opponents and succumbed to a 5-0 defeat.

  • Week 14: D’Angelos hold on to secure the vital win!

Only 1 match took place in Week 14 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3.

It involved D’Angelos Saints and USSR United and it was played at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School. Both teams recorded good wins in the league in the previous weekend and were hopeful of continuing their good run of form. It was USSR that started the brighter of the 2 sides. Controlling most of the play, they went ahead thru a Roma strike in the 14th minute. It looked to be smooth sailing after they went 2-0 up after the interval but D’Angelos managed to claw back into the game in the space of 8 minutes! Goals from Fi Zac (3), R. Premnathan and Hougang ‘Kutty’ Babu gave D’Angelos the lead in the match and despite a USSR netting a third thru Alisher Rakhmatullayev, it was too little too late. Final score was D’Angelos Saints 5 – 3 USSR United.

  • Week 13: Mixed results in Week 13 for teams of Division 3!

4 matches took place in Week 13 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3.
Lionheart FC and East Celtic FC were involved in the early kick-off as their match kicked off at Marsiling Secondary School. The visitors were on a high going into the game after claiming a vital win in their last league match. However they were dealt a severe blow as they had a player sent off in the match and struggled to cope with a man down. Lionheart did not waste the opportunity to strike while the iron was hot and struck 4 times to record a deserving 4-1 victory.

In the match following that, Team Awesome took on former champions D’Angelos Saints. Both teams suffered defeats in their previous league matches were hoping to bounce back with a positive result. It was to be D’Angelos’s day as they seized control of the proceedings led by Man-of-the-Match Mohan Raj. His strike coupled with goals from Nagaraj ‘Kun’ She, Lavin ‘The Dragon’ Nair and Fi Zac ensured D’Angelos comfortably won by 4 goals to nil.

Over at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School, NYCFC welcomed Fazy Wazy FC for the 3pm kick-off. While NYCFC were victorious in their previous league match, Fazy Wazy only managed a draw the previous weekend. The match was a fiery contest between two teams intent on claiming all 3 points. The heat of the match obviously got too much for several players on the Fazy Wazy team as they suffered the ignominy of being sent off in the match. With the numerical advantage, NYCFC struck late to clinch a 2-1 victory and record a successive league victory.

The final game of the day was between USSR United and Atlas FC at Anderson Secondary School. The game was lacking in clear-cut chances for both sides and was looking to end in drab affair. However fine strikes by Pavel Volkov and Roma cancelled out Azlan ‘Yayan’ Yazid’s solitary goal to give USSR the crucial victory. It ended 2-1 in favor of the hosts.

  • Week 11: Lionheart succumb to home defeat as USSR United edge out former champions

Only 2 matches were played over Week 11 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3.

In the first match at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School, USSR United took on D’Angelos Saints. Both teams suffered unfortunate defeats in Week 10 and were looking to bounce back with a good performance in this fixture. Both teams started cautiously from the first whistle before gradually growing in confidence as the match progressed. Sasitharan Krishnamurthy scored for the visitors before Ramon Dominguez and Pavel Volkov struck to give USSR the lead. The match then ended on a sour note as both sides were reduced to 10 men following a double dismissal. Final score was USSR United 2-1 D’Angelos Saints.

Following that match, Lionheart FC faced NYCFC in the 3pm kick-off. NYCFC won the corresponding fixture back in Week 4 by 3 goals to 1 and were confident of picking up a second win against the same opponents. Aided by Man-of-the-Match Hairi Talib, the visitors controlled the majority of the game and had the better chances in front of goal. • Week 10: Easy wins for Atlas, East Celtic and Fazy Wazy in Week 10!

3 matches were played out in the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3 as the season enters its 10th week of competition.

In the early kick-off, D’Angelos Saints hosted Fazy Wazy at Anderson Secondary School. D’Angelos were back in league action after a week’s break while Fazy Wazy were going into the match off the back of a victory over East Celtic in Week 9. It was no surprise that Fazy Wazy started the brighter of the two sides as they controlled the majority of possession and created the better chances. Despite D’Angelos scoring thru efforts from Mohan Raj and Sasitharan Krishnamurthy (2), Fazy Wazy were more clinical in front of goal and found the net 8 times in the match. It finished 8-3 in favour of the visiting team.

Atlas FC took on Team Awesome at the same venue in the 3pm time slot as they look to better their draw result the previous weekend. Team Awesome on the other hand were raring to be on the field of play after not being involved in Week 9. The match started well for the home side as they were awarded as penalty after Azlan ‘Yayan’ Yazid was brought down in the box. Azlan picked himself up to convert the spot-kick and give his side the lead. Team Awesome equalised almost immediately after the restart to give the visitors a reprieve. However it was not long before Atlas regained the lead thru a lob effort from G.Raghu as the first half ended 2-1. The hosts continued their fine form after the break as a debut goal from Solihin made the score line 3-1. Team Awesome were unable to match up to their opponents and furthers goals from Azlan and Sazli Suhaimi ensured Atlas picked up all 3 points as they ran out comfortable 5-1 winners.

Over at Coral Secondary School, East Celtic FC faced USSR United in another engaging contest. Both clubs were desperate for the 3 points on offer after disappointing defeats in their last league encounters. East Celtic seized the initiative from the first whistle as they piled pressure on the USSR United backline. After scoring the opener, it was all one way traffic for East Celtic as they continued to add to their tally. Pavel Volkov and Ramon Dominguez did manage to get on the score sheet for the visitors however it was merely a consolation as the home side finished the game strongly to record a 5-2 victory and condemn USSR United to another league defeat. “Awful. It was a disaster. Our team should not be playing football; we should all be joining ballet dancing instead. As it is, the referee’s decisions were not helpful as well” bemoaned an upset USSR United Team Manager after the game.

  • Week 9: Fazy Wazy edge out a victory as Lionheart and Atlas share the spoils

Week 9 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3 competiton saw 2 matches being played.

In the early kick-off at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School, Lionheart FC faced Atlas FC. Both these sides played out an entertaining match in the season opener of the current league campaign. While Lionheart was on top form in that game, it was Atlas that took a surprise lead in this fixture. G.Raghu scored a beautiful goal to put the away side ahead. The lead was however short-lived as the hosts hit back with 2 quick goals to snatch the lead going into the half-time break. After the interval, Atlas went in search of the equaliser and were rewarded when Navin Vijaya Rajan scored from a tap in. Whilst Atlas was still celebrating the goal, Lionheart stunned them by netting their 3rd goal of the game to put them 3-2 in the lead. It looked to be Lionheart’s game before up stepped Captain Marvel Azlan ‘Yayan’ Yazid who found the net with a cheeky lob in the dying minutes to level the scores at 3-3. “It was patient play by the team after that 9-3 trashing in the 1st game of the season. We did well and we truly deserve the draw” said a satiesfied Atlas FC Team Manager after the game.

Fazy Wazy FC took on East Celtic FC in the other match as the game kicked off at Coral Secondary School. While Fazy Wazy was going into the game fresh from defeating Lionheart FC in Week 8, East Celtic was hoping to do one better after managing only a draw in their last league match. With both sides scoring regularly in the league this season, it was little surprise that the match was an open encounter. Both sides had their chances to create goal scoring opportunities and penetrate their opponent’s defences. It was the home side that was more clinical in front of goal as they managed to find the back of the net 5 times throughout the game. Despite scoring 3 of their own, East Celtic was unable to recover the deficit and ended losing by 5 goals to 3.

The last match of the day was at Bedok Green Secondary School and it featured Lionheart FC against USSR United. The away side were hoping to bounce back from their recent league defeat against Team Awesome while Lionheart had a week’s break from league football in Week 6. The time away did not distrupt Lionheart’s overall pattern of play as they created plenty of goal scoring opportunities against the league’s bottom placed team. To their credit, USSR still managed to find the net thru efforts from Roma (2) and Pavel Volkov (2) however that was insufficient to overcome the lead established by their opponents. Final score Lionheart 7-4 USSR United. “ It was an awful game for us. We are rock bottom in what is probably the easiest division we have ever played in the X league's 7 previous seasons” said a disappointed USSR team manager after the match.

  • Week 6: Team Awesome bounce back to victory while East Celtic stumbles against D’Angelos Saints

Week 6 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3 saw 2 matches being contested as the league campaign intensifies.

The first match of the day took place at Coral Secondary School as USSR United hosted Team Awesome. While the home side was not in league action the previous weekend, the away team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Lionheart FC. USSR started the brighter of the 2 sides and showed no rustiness on the field of play. Roma was the stand-out player for the hosts as he bagged 2 goals in the first half. Team Awesome were not to be outdone as they manage to create several chances to score a couple of goals of their own. While USSR’s Ramon Dominguez manage to score his side’s 3rd goal early in the second half, it was to be Team Awesome’s day as they delivered a late salvo to outscore their opponents by the solitary goal. Final score was USSR United 3- 4 Team Awesome.

Over at Marsiling Secondary School, former league champions D’Angelos Saints took on league newcomers East Celtic. The visitors have been on a good run of form in the league and were looking to extend their run against a D’Angelos side who have been experiencing an indifferent start to the league season. It was a game of few clear-cut chances as both sides were cautious in their play. Hougang Kutty Babu (HKB) scored a fine goal for D’Angelos Saints as they looked to gain the upper hand against their opponents. However, East Celtic managed to deny the hosts all 3 points as they equalized late in the game as the contest ended in a 1-1 draw.

  • Week 5: Home comforts for East Celtic and Lionheart

There were 2 matches played in the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3 as the season enters Week 5.

Marsiling Secondary School provided the setting for the match up between East Celtic and Atlas FC. The home side were going into the game on a high from defeating Team Awesome the previous weekend. It was the opposite for their opponents on the day as Atlas have been on a poor run of form recently. And it was East Celtic who seized the initiative from the first whistle as they controlled the majority of the match. While Atlas managed to score twice in the game, it was mere consolation as East Celtic hit 5 goals past their opponent’s custodian to earn a well-deserved 5-2 victory and gain another 3 points in successive weeks.

Over at Anderson Secondary School, Lionheart FC hosted Team Awesome in what was to be a fiery encounter. Both teams were in need of the points after suffering narrow defeats in their respective matches the previous weekend. Lionheart started the game on the front foot as they put together several attacks on the Team Awesome goal. It was not long before they took the lead and never looked back. Team Awesome tried in vain to get back into the contest but rarely threatened and in the end conceded another goal to go down to a 2-0 defeat.

  • Week 4: NYCFC begin their season with a convincing victory

It was another weekend of exciting football as 3 matches kicked-off in the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3.

NYCFC and Lionheart FC started the ball rolling in Week 4 of the league as they went head-to-head at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School. This was the first match of the season for NYCFC as they took on a side that has 2 matches under their belt thus far. However, NYCFC did not show any rustiness as they took charge of the match proceedings from the first whistle. Having created the better chances, NYCFC scored 3 times in the match while Lionheart only managed a consolation thru Udin Zahidi. The result snapped a winning run for the visting team as they looked to bounce back from the result.

Team Awesome hosted East Celtic at Anderson Secondary School looking to improve on their showing after their recent league loss to D’Angelos Saints. Their opponents themselves were also coming into the game off a poor result against Lionheart FC. The game provided an opportunity for either side to garner 3 precious points as they look to put their league campaign back on track. Both sides provided much industry and created numerous chances to force the game in their favor. In the end it was East Celtic who stole the edge over their opponents as they ran out to a narrow 3-2 win.

The final match of the weekend saw USSR United taking on Fazy Wazy at Coral Secondary School. Both sides have been inconsistent in their matches thus far and were looking to improve in their league showing. USSR started well and scored the game’s first goal in the 3rd minute thru Ramon Dominguez's belter. However Fazy Wazy quickly levelled the match with a goal of their own. Despite controlling most of the game, USSR soon found themselves on the back foot as Fazy Wazy pounced on a defensive lapse to take the lead. In the 19th minute, Ramon dribbled around 5 opponents and sent an unstoppable goal-bound shot to the back of the net to make it 2-2. It looked to be headed for a draw as the 1st half drew to a close but Fazy Wazy were awarded a late penalty which they duly converted to take a slim lead into the interval. Both defences tightened up in the second half and despite several chances, there was no further breakthrough and the match ended 3-2 in favour of Fazy Wazy. “Although this was one of our favourite pitches, we didn’t get the rub of the green today. It was a good performance against a strong opponent. We hope to do better in the next match” said the USSR team manager after the game.

  • Week 3: Mixed fortunes for league new boys as D’Angelos start with a win

It was a busy weekend of football as 3 matches were played out in Week 3 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3.

League newboys Fazy Wazy FC hosted their first home match of the season against X-league veterans Atlas FC at Regent Secondary School. After claiming a valuable draw in their league opener, Fazy Wazy were hopeful of getting all 3 points against a side who traditionally have struggled in the league. However Atlas have started the season strongly and have managed a league win under their belts. Both teams started cautiously before the home side slowly gained control of the proceedings. Despite Atlas scoring thru Azlan ‘Yayan’ Yazid and Navin Vijaya Rajan, it was Fazy Wazy who emerged victorious as they breezed to a 6-2 win.

Over at Anderson Secondary School, it was a match-up between 2 attacking teams as D’Angelos Saints welcomed Team Awesome. This was D’Angelos’ first match of the new season while Team Awesome had previously played Fazy Wazy the previous weekend. The extra match practice proved crucial for the visitors as they took an early lead courtesy of Baqir and Muhammad Nordin aka Nid Ron. It looked to be plain sailing for Team Awesome as they chased that 1st win of the season. However, D’Angelos regrouped and clawed themselves back into the match by scoring 3 goals to overturn the deficit and win the game by 3 goals to 2. “We looked on course for our 1st win after the early goals but we failed to maintain the tempo and allowed the opponents to come back. That coupled with some unfortunate refereeing decisions changed the game on its head. We’ll take this on the chin and keep on fighting. GGTA!” said a disappointed Team Awesome manager after his team’s loss.

The final match of the day took place at Bedok View Secondary School between league debutants East Celtic FC and Lionheart FC. As it was the first match of their maiden season in the X-League, it was evident that nerves got the better of East Celtic. They struggled to maintain any decent possession of the football in the early parts of the game as Lionheart took the driver’s seat and controlled the match. As the match progressed, the home side grew in confidence and managed to string a few dangerous attacks of their own. However it proved too little too late as Lionheart emerged victorious with a slim 3-2 scoreline to register their 2nd win of the league campaign.

  • Week 2: Atlas bounce back to victory!

Two matches kicked off simultaneously on Week 2 of the new PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3 season.

The first game was a match up of old and new as Team Awesome hosted newcomers Fazy Wazy at Sembawang Secondary School. The visitors showed some jitters in the beginning of the match as they struggled to come to terms to the new league. This allowed the more seasoned Team Awesome to gain a foothold on the game and race to a 2 goal lead by half-time. It was a different story after the interval as Fazy Wazy regrouped and fought back to level the scores. The match ended 2-2 and both teams had to be satisfied with a point a piece. “We were looking to start the season with 3 points but it was not meant to be. Having gone 2 goals up at half time, things were looking good but credit to the opponents on their comeback to even things up. Crucial saves from our keeper Hussain also kept the game close towards the end” said a disappointed Team Awesome manager after the match.

It was a meeting of familiar foes as Atlas FC took on USSR United at Woodlands Secondary School. Having been on the end of a thrashing the previous weekend, Atlass were hopeful of upping their game against their Russian opponents. The game started brightly in favor of Atlas against a USSR side who were still coming to speed with the new season. Plenty of chances were created by both teams and after the dust had settled, it was Atlas FC who triumphed with a 7-3 scoreline and condemned USSR to an opening fixture loss.

  • Week 1: 12 goal thriller on Matchday 1!

The opening weekend of season 9 of the PSB Academy Sunday Premier League Division 3 starts of with a goal rush as Atlas FC hosted Lionheart FC.

Woodlands Secondary School provided the setting for the match as both teams set out to begin the new league campaign on a positive note. It proved to be a tight affair in the first half as both sides traded blows and scored from their respective chances. After the interval, the visitors took control of the game and pulled away by scoring from several set-piece plays. Despite Azlan ‘Yayan’ Yazid’s double and G.Raghu’s solitary strike, Atlas were unable to rescue the game as they finished the match on the losing end of a 9-3 thrashing. “It was a close fight in the 1st half but we never recovered in the 2nd after they scored 3 goals from corners. It is still early days and we have to wake up our ideas if we want to do well in the league” said an optimistic Atlas FC’s team manager.
