Team Report

The strongest opponent, current leader, and perhaps the main contender together with Stellar Utd. (have not seen Maestro in action this season yet) We have tried to revive our last season performance and surprise the Lions. Our intention was quickly dampened on the first minute of the game (where is our lady luck this season): The Lion's captain (Sapik) took an audacious shot directly from kick-off (Bedok Green is one of those short-lengthened fields). The shot was strong but wide by 2 meters, yet our goalkeeper decided to catch it instead of flying out and mishandled - creating a corner. Corner followed, our defender on the front post missed the header, ball flew into our player knee-high so he could only clear it into the stomach of our other player (that was me) with ball pace softening and bouncing right in front of one of the Lions. Unchallenged shot, one meter from goals, was unstoppable 0-1, first minute... defensive plan is shattered.... to the league leader... our strongest team on the pitch... - what do you do!? - throw everything out at the Lions. Indeed, the next 10 minutes we played out strongest for a while, at times, Lions were just clearing the ball. Finally, our corner was not fully cleared, the ball was passed back into the box with unopposed Anthony toe-poking the ball into low right corner 1-1. Good, now we were back to the start. Ramon hit a crossbar towards the end of the first half and our goalie had to produce some solid saves. Second half started with our attacks again with Pasha V and Anthony constantly threatening but SG Lions goalie was playing very well. The game was coming to the point where one goal decides the winner. Unfortunately, we were getting tired and our last defender didn't do goal-kick far and precise enough. The ball was chested by one of the Lions and before our defender (myself) could get to him passed into open space to Lion's captain, ourlast defender was kicking from the other side and didn't yet make it to the other timely. Half-challenged, powerful shot followed with little chance to our goalie 1-2 and we had no more strengths to equalize especially with Ramon walking out injured. Good game, very strong opponent, we played well, our bench depth is not yet ready for such games. Both MOMs to goalkeepers.

Our by far the most favourite team Maestris (albeit somewhat different) is next. 6 years they have somehow played with us, first in SunSports league (we were called Russian Club those times) then X-League and X-cup more than 8 games with each other and not a SINGLE win by Maestro in regular time.
