Team Report

This was the penultimate challenge remaining for the quest to the Championship for Kamikaze MMXV.

While the scoreline in the reverse fixture flattered us, we were made to work by a hardworking and tenacious side and we expected a similar challenge.

But the biggest challenge for us in this match was the finishing. Having created chances through wave after wave of attacks MMXV couldn’t convert the chances. With each passing minute the pressure increased, but a relief was provided by an outstanding piece of composure from Irshad who won the ball just inside the opponent’s half and powered through the midfield before rounding the keeper to give the team a slender lead into the half-time break.

The lead was not enough to calm the nerves completely as Sparta Cowboys refused to give up and kept attacking in the second period. They were first to the looseballs and kept threatening the MMXV goal. With 4 minutes of injury time, the unthinkable happened for MMXV: Sparta notched a deserved equaliser through a mix up.

Just when it looked like the title race was going to be out of our hands again, the boys rolled up their sleeves and decided to give it their all for the remaining 3 minutes. They launched two quick attacks and won a freekick at the edge of the box. With the last throw of the dice, Irshad stepped up. And delivered a moment of pure magic.

Assistant Manager Kaviraj had this to say in the post-match debrief,

“It was a hard-fought win no doubt. Scrappy at times. But no team deserves this more than us. This kind of moments are what Champions are made of. We are not there yet. But we are fully focused and we will take the lessons of this game to prepare for the final game!”
