Following their unlucky 3-1 loss to Arizen last week, Schwarz Star were determined to set things right in their game against L.A.S. Despite L.A.S dominating the second half, Schwarz Star were the more clinical side in front of goal and came away 5-0 winners. Ying Quan opened the scoring in this tie when he capitalized on a defensive effor before dribbling past two defenders and sending his shot past the outstretched keeper in the 14th min. A good run by Schwarz Star’s left winger in the 16th min saw him beat the onrushing goalkeeper before unselfishly passing the ball to Ray to finish from close range. HT 2-0. L.A.S came out of the break the more determined side but their efforts just didn’t find the back of the net let alone trouble the goalkeeper. Goals from Leon and Ray saw the Stars 4-0 up by the 60th min before Andy sealed the game with a brilliant header from a corner kick which flew into the top right hand corner of goal.

Following their unlucky start to the season, last year’s 1st runner up Socceritez had a chance to set things right against third placed Stamford in a ‘clash of the titans’ as some would call it, at Boon Lay Secondary. So it was to everyone’s surprise that Socceritez were 3-0 down by the 15th min due to a couple of baffling defensive errors. Erwyn managed to pull a goal back for Socceritez in the 30th min when he met a cross with a first time shot that ripped the back of the net. This was followed by a dramatic penalty call for Stamord that was overturned by the referee upon consulting his linesman. HT 3-1. Socceritez looked rusty throughout the game and paid the price for not fine tuning themselves with pre-season frendlies. Stamford hit them with another three goals in the second half sending them to the top of the Saturday premier League.

Stinging attacks, comeback victories, goals galore: The first week of Season 2 of the Saturday Premier League saw actions that were thick and fast, with inclement weather failing to dampen spirits as teamwork and skills were flashed throughout the matches.
Pechacious got their campaign off to a winning start in a closely fought encounter with Socceritez FC at Boon Lay Secondary. Having finished 2nd last season, Socceritez came into this clash hoping to better last season’s performance. Suratul “Mail lambung” gave the home side the lead in the 26th min when he managed to flick the ball into goal after his initial shot was parried into his path by the goalkeeper. HT 1-0. Both teams came out of the break all guns blazing and it was Socceritez that deservedly scored the equalizer through Ashiq in the 48th min. Socceritez were then given the opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty midway through the second half but unfortunately scuffed their chance. Suratul then sent his bench into a frenzy with a fine individual effort that saw him hold off two defenders before blasting his shot into the bottom left hand corner of goal.
Final Score: Pechacious 2 Socceritez FC 1
Playing their first game in the X-League, Schwarz Star were unfortunate to have gone home empty handed in their tie against Arizen FC going down 3-1. Things looked smooth sailing when Brandon put the Falcons 1-0 up in the 18th min after he managed to tap the ball into goal following an initial shot that was parried onto his path by the Arizen goalkeeper. Hat-trick hero Wilson Kwa then brought the scoreline level in the 27th min when he headed a long range pass over the Schwarz Star goalkeeper. Wilson then made it 2-1 a min before half time by dribbling past two players and blasting the ball into the back of the net from close range. HT 2-1. The second half was a carbon copy of the first with both teams missing most of their chances in front of goal. Schwarz Star had a great opportunity to score a dramatic equalizer in the final minutes of the game when their striker was faced with a one on one situation with the Arizen goalkeeper but unfortunately for them the shot was acrobatically saved. Schwarz Star were recovering from the disappointment of their missed attempt when Wilson bagged his third goal in the final seconds of the match when he flicked a long ball past the outstretched goalkeeper. In the end, Schwarz Star were left to rue their missed chances in a game where a draw seemed a fairer result.
Final Score: Schwarz Star 1 Arizen FC 3
Defending Champions Newton Heath got their campaign off to a flying start but not without a tinge of controversy. The Champions were awarded a dubious penalty in the 8th min of their tie against Kallang Roar which was clinically converted by four-goal hero Bo Yanni. The dejected Kallang Roar players were then further punished by Bo as he went on to bag another three goals before half time. Kallang Roar did however, manage to pull a goal back before the break through Md Noor Hadi who latched onto a loose ball from outside the penalty box that had ricocheted off the defending wall following a free kick. More controversy surrounded the match officials when Kallang Roar were denied an obvious penalty in the first half, adding to their frustrations. HT 4-1. The second half was more even with both teams creating an equal amount of chances at both ends. Newton Heath sealed the game three mins before the end with their fifth goal sending them to the top of the Saturday Premier League.
Final Score: Newton Heath 5 Kallang Roar 1
Over at the Khalsa Premier Pitch, Stamford continued their unbeaten run against L.A.S by emulating the same 3-1 result that took place in both the home and away legs last season. Jufrie gave Stamford the lead in this tie when his left footed shot met the top right hand corner of goal in the 34th min. HT 1-0. Hydil then made it 2-0 just two mins after the break when he managed to scramble the ball over the line following a mix-up in the penalty box. It was all over by the 54th min when Redzwan converted a spot kick bringing the scoreline to 3-0. L.A.S managed to pull a goal back to keep traditions alive six mins before time with a volley from outside the penalty box but it’s something they’ll need to remedy when the two teams meet again later on this season.
